Our municipality is home to 605 people in the northeastern corner of Grant County, South Dakota that lies between the southern tip of Big Stone Lake and the northern bank of the Whetstone River. We are home to beautiful Big Stone Lake, a body of water known for its excellent fishing. We are also pleased to offer our citizens a prosperous industrial and manufacturing center, a reputable healthcare system, a quality school, and plenty of outdoor recreational activities.

The community was established in 1878. It served as the seat of Grant County from 1880 to 1883. The present name comes from nearby Big Stone Lake. Big Stone City was incorporated in 1885.

City of Big Stone offers electrical incentives for residential appliances, thermostats, lighting, ceiling fans, motors, heating and cooling. We offer the same incentives for businesses.
